This Victorian fur clip is the very picture of austere luxury. Five gorgeous old mine-cut diamonds are six-prong-set across a slender 14k white gold bar. Very unusual to see white gold in usage during this period. The fabulous antique stones have a .75tcw, with the depth, faceting pattern, and wide open culets that make these old cuts so special. The center diamond is significantly larger than the flanking accent stones. A fur clip is a brooch that fastens with two long, hinged prongs; the long, sturdy prongs are intended for wear on heavy wintertime fabrics. A rollover clasp secures the longer prong. Sometimes, simplicity is the answer. Circa 1860.
